NFL Super Bowl 50 Betting Preview
Denver vs Carolina– Live Sky Sports 1 Sunday 7th February (22:00)
Finally its here, after last weeks embarrassment of a football we are now ready for the biggest game of the year, the Super Bowl. The big game, taking place at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara is a fascinating on die to the many differences between the two teams who will be competing.
On one hand you have the Denver Broncos, lead by the best defence in football they will prove a challenge for any offence, just ask Tom Brady, who still sees Von Miller running at him every time he closes his eyes. Their Peyton Manning lead offence is much more conservative then any of the previous Manning run offences but they will believe that as long as they don’t turn the ball over their defence will be able to put them in position to win this game. The only real injury worries for the Broncos are safeties TJ Ward and Darian Stewart after they both missed the end of the dramatic victory against the Patriots but they should both be close to 100% after getting these two weeks off. Broncos legendary quarterback Peyton Manning, in what will in all likelihood be his final NFL game, will hope for the storybook ending to his hall of fame career. One of very few complaints people have over Mannings incredible career is that he has just one Super Bowl victory. If it is to be Manning lifting the Lombardi trophy next week even the most avid Peyton haters will have to stay applaud hius incredible career..
Whilst Denver may have a slightly conservative offence the Panthers offence is anything but. Lead by Cam Newton they rely of the read-option combines with the ability to through the ball deep to one of many lighting fast wide receivers to move the ball down the field. Some through this offence may struggle against the increased quality of competition but first half blitzes through both Seattle and Arizona have alleviated those fears and no the are few who doubt the prowess of Cam and co. The powerful Carolina offence has occasionally made people forget that Carolina also have a fearsome defence, lead by linebackers Luke Keuchly and Thomas Davis they will be looking to prevent the run and force Peyton Manning to try and beat them with his arm as opposed to his mind. Davis left the NFC championship game with a broken forearm but is determined to at least try and play on Sunday. How his arm reacts to the first big hit could have a large significance on the outcome of this game. Make sure you take advantage of the numerous free bets available for this game.
I am picking the Denver Broncos, maybe with more hope than expectation. Carolina are clearly the superior team and there is a decent chance that they blow the Broncos away early and end up winning by 20+ points. However, if the Broncos can keep this game close up until the fourth quarter they have proven time and time again this season that they know how to win these close, scrappy games. It is for that reason that I am going to pick the Broncos to not just cover the spread but also to win the game outright and send Peyton Manning off into the sunset with the storybook ending he so clearly deserves.
My Pick: Denver (+4.5)
Predicted Score: Denver Broncos 20 – Carolina Panthers 17
