NFL Wildcard Weekend Betting Preview 09/01/15
NFL Wildcard Weekend Betting Preview
Kansas City @ Houston – Live Sky Sports 1 Saturday 9th January (21:30)
After week six in the season these two teams had just three wins between them, Houston had been playing musical quarterbacks and the Chiefs star running back Jamaal Charles had just suffered a season ending injury. It would not be too much of a stretch then to think that even the most optimistic fans of these two teams would not have expected to be suiting up for a playoff game. However, the Texans managed to come through the putrid AFC south and the Chiefs went on a 10 game win streak which would have seen them win the AFC south had the Broncos slipped up against the Chargers last week. The chiefs are currently sitting as 3.5 point favourites which I think is actually a little low. Anyone who is a regular gambler on the NFL, such as myself, has been looking forward to betting against Brian Hoyer in the post season. I would take this line as long as it stays under six, I genuinely believe the Chiefs are a very good team with one of the best defences in the NFL and a quarterback who doesn’t turn the ball over. I doubt this game will be very interesting, but the Chiefs should win this game fairly comfortably, unless Andy Reid starts doing Andy Reid things…
My Pick: Kansas City Chiefs (-3.5)
Pittsburgh @ Cincinnati – Live Sky Sports 1 Sunday 10th January (01:00)
So after it seemed as though the Steelers had thrown away their playoff chances the Jets proceeded to lose to the Bills allowing the Steelers a second chance which they went on to take with an unconvincing win over the Cleveland Browns. This leaves us with a very interesting game which is almost impossible to gamble on without knowing not only whether Andy Dalton is going to play but what type of condition he is in. The Steelers also have injury problems of their own with Deangelo Williams seeming unlikely to be ready after suffering an injured ankle against the Browns. I can’t see how Andy Daltons thumb will be fully healed so I will go with the quarterback who I trust more. Antonio Brown has also been incredible recently and I expect that to continue with a bog game to lead to Steelers to a road win.
My Pick: Pittsburgh (-3.0)
Seattle @ Minnesota – Live Sky Sports 1 Sunday 10th January (17:30)
Seattle seem to be the consensus pick for the most dangerous wild card team on the back of their incredibly impressive victory over the Arizona last week but I’m still yet to be convinced by their secondary and still believe that they can be beaten. Now, I feel obligated to mention that I am a 49ers fan and therefore have a major bias against the Seahawks but still, I like Minnesota’s chances this week. The Vikings have a high quality defence and the best running back in football so I think they have a chance to be the upset of the weekend. Minnesota are also on the back on the back of a huge win agaisnt the Packers so they should be running high on confidence. The main concern I have with the Vikings is quarterback Teddy Bridgewater, who I think will have to make a few big throws down the stretch to in this game, I think he can make these throws, but how he reacts to this kind of stage is still unknown for the second year quarterback.
My Pick: Minnesota (+5.0)
Green Bay @ Washington – Live Sky Sports 1 Sunday 10th January (21:00)
On the back on consecutive losses to Arizona and Minnesota the Green Bay Packers are not coming into the post season in the kind of form that they would have hoped. The Packers defence has struggled throughout the season and the combination of an inconsistent running game, a group of receivers that can’t get any separation from their defenders and a non-existent offensive line. The only real positive point for this team is that their quarterback is still Aaron Rodgers which always gives them a chance. In comparison, the Washington Redskins rely on a team which is good in all areas. They have a solid defence, a good running game and Kirk Cousins is in the best form of his entire career. Cousins has been aided by star tight end Jordan Reed and I expect him to be a threat in this match. Almost all the signs point to a Washington win, but Aaron Rodgers is still behind centre for the Packers, so I am going to back him to lead them to a victory. Click here for more odds and free bets.
My Pick: Green Bay (+1.0)

NFL Week 13 Betting Preview
Seattle @ Minnesota – Live Sky Sports 2 Sunday 15th November (17:30)
Undoubtedly the game of the weekend, both of these teams will be looking to take another step towards the playoffs with a win this weekend. Seattle, on the back of their most impressive victory of the season against Pittsburgh last week will be hoping that Russell Wilson continues his rich vein of form against a very strong Vikings defence. The Seahawks will be without tight-end Jimmy Graham for the rest of the season and will need better performances from their defence if they are to win in Minnesota. The Vikings will, as per usual, be looking to lean on the running game and so the performance of Adrian Peterson may be the deciding factor in what is sure to be a close game. I think that the Vikings defence will be able to do enough to contain Russell Wilson and get the win necessary to maintain their lead in the NFC North.
My Pick: Minnesota (+2.5)
Carolina @ New Orleans – Live Sky Sports 2 Sunday 15th November (21:15)
The undefeated Carolina Panthers head to New Orleans knowing that they are now the last remaining chance of doing the unthinkable and finishing the season undefeated. Carolina quarterback Cam Newton will also be thinking about building his resume for the MVP and few will be able to argue against him winning it if the Panthers finish the season unbeaten. The Panthers defence, lead by linebacker Luke Kuechly, have are playing as well as anybody this season and will be full of confidence having forced the Cowboys into multiple turnovers last time out. On the other hand, the Saints will be disappointed with their season thus far and with little chance of making the playoffs are just playing for pride in this divisional game. Its been over 20 years since the Saints were getting seven or more points at home but this seems like at least a two touchdown win for Carolina in this game.
My Pick: Carolina (-6.5)
Indianapolis @ Pittsburgh – Live Sky Sports 2 Monday 16th November (00:30)
This game may well come down to whether or not Ben Roethlisberger is ruled healthy to play after he missed the Steelers final drive last week as he was in the Concussion protocol. Regardless of that, Indianapolis know that they still don’t have Andrew Luck available but may not mind that too much as Matt Hasselbeck is now 5-0 this season and is surprising people every week at 40 years of age. Despite losing against Seattle last week Pittsburgh still put up a impressive offensive performance and if Roethlisberger is healthy I’m not sure any defence will be bale to stop this vaunted passing attack. Despite impressive performances this season I cant see Hasselbeck keeping up with Roethlisberger so expect a comfortable win for the Steelers at home.
My Pick: Pittsburgh (-7.5)
Dallas @ Washington – Live Sky Sports 1 Tuesday 17th November (01:15)
After last weeks thanksgiving disaster the Dallas Cowboys season would be all but over in any other division in football. Fortunately for them they are just two games back on the leaders of the NFC East, which happens to be their opponents this week the Washington Redskins. Matt Cassell will be back under centre for the Cowboys after Tony Romo’s injury last week all but ended his season. Romo’s injuries means their will be a greater reliance on the running game which has struggled to replicate the same success that they had last year with Demarco Murray on the team. Washington have been a picture of inconsistency this season but have been impressive of late thanks mainly to the performances of Kirk Cousins. The remaining games of the season are arguably more important for Cousins than anyone else as his performances in these games may be the difference between a long term contract as a starting quarterback or into a battle for a job with the likes of Brian Hoyer in Houston next year. I think that Washington will have just enough to beat the 4.5 point spread which has been set.
My Pick: Washington (-4.0)

NFL Week 12 Betting Preview
New York @ Washington – Live Sky Sports 2 Sunday 15th November (17:30)
After Thanksgiving losses for the Cowboys and Eagles this has suddenly become a very important game in the race to win the putrid NFC East. Washington will be without Chris Culliver, who has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a torn ACL. Also, despite getting thumped my Cam Newton and the Panthers last week there were some good signs early on for the Redskins and will feel aggrieved with some decisions that went against them. The Giants are on the back of their bye week an will be pleased to get the chance to heal up a few of their key members as they look to begin a playoff push. Despite only having a 5-5 record they will feel that could have been a lot better as they have thrown a few games away with more decisions and clock management down the stretch in games. However, I think that Eli Manning and the Giants should have enough to win this game fairly comfortably.
My Pick: New York (-2.5)
Pittsburgh Bay @ Seattle – Live Sky Sports 2 Sunday 15th November (21:15)
Despite lofty pre-season aspirations, both of these sides find themselves battling for just a wildcard spot to make the playoffs this season. Pittsburgh have been hampered by injuries all season and will have been thankful for the bye week to give star quarterback Ben Roethlisberger a chance to heal up. The Roethlisberger and Antonio Brown combination has been lethal this season and will be looking to expose a Seahawks secondary which has been a shell of the legion of boom we have seen the last couple of years. Seattle will be without running back Marshawn Lynch for the next few weeks but may not miss him too much thanks to the emergence of undrafted rookie Thomas Rawls. Seattles “12th man” has not been able to have their usual influence this season and I think the Pittsburgh passing game will be able to cause enough damage to beat these Seattle Seahawks.
My Pick: Pittsburgh (+3.5)
New England @ Denver – Live Sky Sports 2 Monday 16th November (00:30)
Its probably not quite the same draw that Brady v Manning would have had but New England would probably have preferred to play Peyton Manning as opposed to Brock Osweiler whom will be behind centre on Sunday night. Osweiler was not overly impressive last week as they beat Chicago but he didn’t turn the ball over and I’m sure that will be what the Broncos are looking for again this week as they attempt to beat the Patriots for the first time this season. New England will be looking to improve on last weeks showing where, despite beating Buffalo 20-13 they were unimpressive and seemed to miss the impact of Julian Edelman, who will not be available for at least a few more weeks. However, the Broncos just have not got enough on offence to keep up with New England so unless the Broncos defence can force multiple turnovers, the Patriots streak will keep on running.
My Pick: New England (-2.5)
Baltimore @ Cleveland – Live Sky Sports 1 Tuesday 17th November (01:15)
This is Matt Schaub vs Josh McCown. There isnt much more to say really, I dont expect anybody to watch this game so if you are awake at 1:30am on Tuesday Morning, here are a few things you should watch instead of this…
Live WWE RAW – 01:00am – Sky Sports 3
Live NBA – Spurs @ Bulls – 01:00am – BT Sports 1
Con Air – 12:40am – Sky Action
However, if you do want to put yourself through this game, jut be aware that all the Ravens you’ve heard of are injured and you cant even watch Johnny Manziel after he was demoted after lying about being at a club during the bye week. So, yeah, the Browns should beat the Ravens but really, the only winners with these games are the people who aren’t watching it.
My Pick: Cleveland (-3.0)
My Week 9 NFL Picks w/Paddypower
Minnesota Vikings (+1.5) over Atlanta Falcons
Cincinnati Bengals (-8.0) over St Louis Rams

NFL Week 11 Betting Preview
Denver @ Chicago – Live Sky Sports 2 Sunday 15th November (17:30)
After the inevitable demise of Peyton Manning last week, this week we have the arrival of Brock Osweiler as quarterback of the Denver Broncos. The Broncos also have Aqib Talib back after his one game suspension and will be looking to lean on him and this much vaunted defence to help what will almost certainly be a struggling offence. On the other hand, the Bears have been improving recently culminating in last weeks impressive rout of the St. Louis Rams. Jay Cutler currently has been extremely impressive since the Bears recovery from their 0-3 start. They also may see the return of Matt Forte although they have not missed him too much thanks to the emergence of rookie Jeremy Langford but the two working in tandem could even see the Bears making a run at making the playoffs. Expect Jay Cutler to continue to impress and lead the Bears to a victory.
My Pick: Chicago (-1.0)
Green Bay @ Minnesota – Live Sky Sports 2 Sunday 15th November (21:15)
Unexpectedly, we arrive at this game will the Vikings leading the Packers in the NFC North and Green Bay having lost their last three games. The Packers will be hoping for some extra production from their receivers as in the past few games they have been unable to get any separation from their defenders. Coach Mike McCarthy has also emphasised the need to get extra production out the running game and will hope for a return to form for the out of sorts Eddie Lacy. The Vikings, off the back of an impressive win against the Raiders last week, will be looking to stamp their authority on the NFC North and expect them to continue to ride Adrian Peterson, with him having averaged 143.7 yards on the ground in his last three games. This game could go either way so if in doubt, pick Aaron Rodgers.
My Pick: Green Bay (+1.0)
Cincinnati @ Arizona – Live Sky Sports 2 Monday 16th November (00:30)
So after spending the first eight games trying to convince us that this Bengals team was different, they ended up losing to the awful Houston Texans proving that they are exactly the same Bengals after all. Cincinnati will attempt to put that behind them but in order to do that they will need Andy Dalton and their offence perform and they will need to to beat the highly impressive Cardinals. Arizona managed to put 39 points past the “Legion of Boom” with MVP candidate Carson Palmer looking better than ever. Arizona has always bee great at home under Bruce Arians and I believe they will win this one comfortably as the look to pull away in the NFC West.
My Pick: Arizona (-5.0)
Buffalo @ New England – Live Sky Sports 1 Tuesday 17th November (01:15)
The injury list continues to grow but the Patriots keep rolling after they somehow managed to come from behind against the Giants thanks to Brady, Gostkowski and the horrific time management of Tom Coughlin, Eli Manning and the rest of the Giants (How can you only run 4 plays in 19 seconds when up 3?!?!?!). Anyway, after Julian Edelman joined the ever growing injury list the Patriots will be relying on Gronkowski and Amendola to lead the receiving attack for the next few weeks at least. The Bills have actually looked decent when Tyrod Taylor has been playing quarterback and the combination of him and Sammy Watkins should cause the Patriots problems. The question for the Bills will be how effectively they can contain Tom Brady but I have just enough faith in Rex Ryan and the Bills defence that whilst they may not win the game, they should keep it close enough to cover the spread.
My Pick: Buffalo (+7.5)
My Week 9 NFL Picks w/ Paddypower
Washington Redskins (-7.5) over Carolina Panthers
Oakland Raiders (-1.0) over Detroit Lions
Dallas Cowboys (-1.0) over Miami Dolphins

NFL Week 10 Betting Preview w/
Miami @ Philadelphia – Live Sky Sports 2 Sunday 15th November – 6:00pm
Philadelphia will be looking to take charge of the NFC East with a win over the Dolphins whose post Joe Philbin honeymoon period seems well and truly over after their defeat to the Bills last week. The Eagles recent increase in form is due in part to the upturn in form of Demarco Murray and whilst Sam Bradford still looks like one of the worst 5 quarterbacks in the league the Eagles running game will be enough to win this game comfortably.
My Pick: Philadelphia (-6.0)
Minnesota @ Oakland – Live Sky Sports 2 Sunday 15th November – 9:30pm
If anyone had said before the season that these two tea,ms would both be in playoff contention in week 10 then most people would have laughed in your face. But here we are, and both of these teams have been extremely impressive but for very different reasons. Minnesota have relied on the running game of Adrian Peterson combined with a very good defence and especially a front seven which will keep Derrick Carr on his toes this Sunday. The Raiders, however, have a passing game which matches almost any other in the NFL thanks to the rapidly improving Carr and star rookie wide receiver Amari Cooper. Home advantage will prove key in this game with the Raiders winning a close game
My Pick: Oakland (-3.0)
Arizona @ Seattle – Live Sky Sports 2 Monday 16th November – 01:30am
Probably the game of the weekend here with the NFC West showdown between the Cardinals and the Seahawks. Seattle currently sit at 4-4 making this a must win game if they still have hopes of winning the division. If they are to win the Seahawks offensive line must play better as so far this season Russell Wilson has been sacked more than any other quarterback. Arizona have not been quite as impressive on the road this season but the knowledge that a win should help seal a place in the playoffs will be more than enough motivation to keep this close and I think that may even get the win.
My Pick: Arizona (+3.0)
Houston @ Cincinnati – Live Sky Sports 1 Tuesday 17th November – 01:15am
What is there to say about this game. Cincinnati are one of the top three teams in the NFL and Houston are one of the three worst teams in the NFL. A big Monday night football game is the perfect place for the Bengals to show the world that they are a legitimate Superbowl contender this season and thus I expect this to be at least a two touchdown victory for the Bengals on Monday night.
My Pick: Cincinnati (-11.0)

England vs New Zealand Betting 14/11/2015
England vs New Zealand Third Test Betting Preview
After an impressive come from behind victory in the first test England will be disappointed by their performance in what was an ugly second test in which New Zealand ran on winners 9-2. However, Steve Mcnamara and his men will be confident of putting that behind them and win the series with a victory at the DW Stadium in the series decider on Saturday.
The series decider starts off with England as just a two point favourite and I haven’t seen anything in the previous two tests which has shown me that this wont be a nail biter.
England will be disappointed not to even score a try last week and I expect that there will have been an offensive focus during training this week. Joe Burgess has been extremely impressive during the series so I think he offers great value at 6/4 to score any time.
New Zealand have grown into the series and will be especially happy with how effective they were able to be on the defensive side of the ball last week. Utility player Kodi Nikorima, who was a late introduction at scrum-half for last Saturday’s second Test at the Olympic Stadium in London, keeps his place after playing a key role in the Kiwi’s victory.
Overall, I believe that the home field advantage will be enough to defeat this very talented New Zealand team. England must start well so the opening 20 minutes will be crucial and I think if they can do this they will do enough to win the game and thus take the series.
England’s 19-man squad: J Bateman, J Burgess, T Burgess, M Cooper, L Farrell, B Ferres, J Graham, R Hall, Z Hardaker, C Hill, J Hodgson, J McGillvary, S O’Loughlin (capt); J Roby, M Smith, K Watkins, E Whitehead, G Widdop, G Williams.
New Zealand: 1 R Tuivasa-Sheck, 2 J Nightingale, 3 J Kahu, 4 D Whare, 5 S Kenny-Dowall, 6 P Hiku, 7 K Nikorima; 8 J Bromwich, 9 I Luke (c), 10 S Moa, 11 K Proctor, 12 T Harris, 13 A Blair.
