Arsenal take on Bayern Munich on Wednesday night in the Allianz Arena, and will be looking to their in-form duo, Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez to boost their Champions League hopes.
In Mesut Ozil, Arsenal have the best player in the Premier League on current form, and they will require all of his technical ability if they are going to continue their excellent recent form.
The Gunners beat Pep Guardiola’s side 2-0 in the last Group F clash, putting them on three points after three games, and a win at the home of the German Champions would leave them in a strong position to qualify despite a poor start.
Arsene Wenger’s side are flying high in the Premier League having won their last five games, scoring 16 goals in the process, and they face a Bayern side who dropped their first Bundesliga points of the season with a 0-0 draw at Eintracht Frankfurt on Friday evening.
However, there will be an increasing reliance on Ozil and Sanchez with an increasing injury list that has seen Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain added to Aaron Ramsey and longer term casualties; Danny Welbeck and Jack Wilshere.
Despite the fact that Arsenal have performed well at Bayern on their last two visits, winning 2-0 in 2013 and drawing 1-1 the following season, I believe this is one game too far for this team.
Their win against Bayern in the reverse fixture was the German champions’ only defeat over 90 minutes in 21 competitive games this season and I fully expect them to avenge last months defeat at the emirates.
