With all the media glued to St George’s Park this week you would be right to think a World Cup final was approaching. Well perhaps it is the nearest final England will make in a few years yet. England currently sit pretty at the top of the group, one point ahead of Ukraine and Montenegro, but it could be different come Friday night.
Jack Wilshire has been in the media spotlight for a number of reasons. His potential affair with cigarettes raised many eyebrows but he responded with a goal for Arsenal, although his first half performance was nothing near what is expected for one of England’s gems.
He then had his words misinterpreted in the press this week after speaking about potential foreign players representing England. A good performance on Friday will silence any questions about Wilshire who is looking forward to his biggest games for his country.
England to win 2-1 is 8/1 on Sky Bet.
Daniel Sturridge is a man in great form for his club and was missed in last months internationals. It is assumed he will be the lone striker upfront and he has the opportunity to make a statement to start him upfront for the games to come and potentially next summer on the biggest stage of them all.
Daniel Sturridge to score first is 5/1 on Sky Bet.
Another welcome return is Manchester United’s Wayne Rooney. The talisman could be the key to unlocking a tough defence and his experience will also come in to great use. With Rooney, England are stronger.
Ashley Cole will miss the tie but Leighton Baines has done a better job statistically for club and country recently. This is his chance to really challenge Cole for that left back berth. Baines will also be a threat from set pieces but time will tell where he is in the free kick pecking order.
“Failure is not an option.” The words of England manager, Roy Hodgson. Manchester City’s Stevan Jovetic may have another opinion. He and his team mates will be desperate to ruin the party and try and push for qualification.
The top team in the group will qualify automatically and the runners up will enter the playoffs, something England especially will want to avoid.
Over 2.5 goals is 8/11 on Sky Bet.
With these two home games remaining, England sure do have the advantage to make it to Brazil next summer. But qualification has rarely been easy for England. Check out other upcoming betting previews here.
