The Betfair hurdle has seen some top prospects win over the last few years including the likes of Zarkander and My Tent Or Yours. This year’s renewal is as competitive as ever with 22 runners declared. This means there is plenty of value for punters. Mad Jack Mytton is a horse who has placed in seven of his eight hurdles runs and has the potential to go close again on Saturday. His most recent appearance came when second behind a very progressive rival and this represents a fair level of form. Mad Jack Mytton is clearly very highly thought of with him having an entry in the Champion Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival. Whilst he is a long way off that level it shows how highly thought of he is. Another positive is the record of six year old horses who have won four of the last seven renewals.

One of the clear dangers is Blazer who is best priced at 4/1 with Bet365. He has been very well supported and is the clear pick of the Mullins horses. He has been well supported since an easy win at Leopardstown last weekend. Another positive is the fact Barry Geraghty opts to ride him over the other four J.P McManus horses. He appears like he has plenty of improvement left in him and should go very close. At the short price he is now there appears little value left.

Another horse to consider is Sternrubin who is available at 9/1 with William Hill. He has previous form in similar races such as his dead heat win in the Ladbroke Hurdle. That capped off a hat trick of wins this season and he appears very progressive. He has been raised 8lbs for his win in the Ladbroke but that might not be enough to stop him. He is sure to make it an extreme test on Saturday given his front running tactics. However there appears plenty of competition for the lead and that may make his job a lot harder.
