Can City move one step closer to their first silverware of the season with victory over the Hammers?
Kick-off: 19:45, Etihad Stadium
There seems to be no respite for Sam Allardyce and his players at the moment. A severe injury crisis has resulted in the forced decision to field four full-backs across the back whilst results have been slipping in the league. To make matters worse, the Hammers manager came under further scrutiny for fielding a second string XI against Nottingham Forest which led to his side’s spectacular exit from the FA Cup. West Ham are widely expected to crash out of the League Cup too when they face Manchester City on Wednesday night and are backed at only 10/3 to qualify at Sportingbet.
Roger Johnson has become the latest addition to the West Ham squad after joining from Wolverhampton Wanderers. He has been drafted in by Allardyce in the wake of the ongoing injury crisis at the Boleyn Ground and will slot straight onto the teamsheet to face the Citizens. He is not exactly renowned for his goalscoring prowess however, bet365 are offering 20/1 odds on Johnson finding the net with a debut goal.
With limited playing time in the league, Edin Dzeko has been making the most of his chances in the League Cup. The Bosnian striker has scored in all three of City’s ties this season and is expected to make it four in four. Dzeko is 5/2 with William Hill to be the first goalscorer.
West Ham’s record on the road at the Etihad is far from encouraging. They have only ever won once and that was in a 2006 FA Cup tie. Not only that but City are favourites for the Premier League title and Pellegrini has the squad depth at his disposal to mount a challenge in all competitions this year. Manchester City are 19/5 to win 4-0 at BetVictor.
